A taxi from Venus Star all the way over to the Cita centre is only 7 euros. A typical main course is about 15 euros, cocktails are 6 or 7 euros (and super-strong), and groceries are much cheaper than UK, France & the Netherlands.

The Maspalomas Dunes are one of Gran Canaria's most recognisable landmarks and have become closely associated with the lifestyle scene.

Some visitors simply enjoy walking through the landscape or taking photographs, while others head to the quieter dune areas that are used as an outdoor meeting place for casual sex within the swinging and gay communities ( different areas within the dunes!)

The atmosphere varies throughout the day and changes noticeably with the season and the number of visitors on the island.

It's common to meet someone during the afternoon, bump into them again over evening drinks, and then see them later in one of the clubs. That gradual rhythm is one of the things that makes Gran Canaria feel different from destinations built around a single venue.

Many regular visitors use the numbered beach kiosks as informal meeting points, making it much easier to find friends or arrange to meet later in the day. However, the kiosks keep changing their numbers - currently, the swingers area is by kiosk 6 (about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the Maspalomas lighthouse).

Rather than spending the whole evening in one location, many visitors move between bars before deciding whether to continue on to one of the clubs later in the night.

Most Evenings Begin In The Bars

For many visitors, the swinging evening starts around the bars of the Cita Shopping Centre at about 10pm.

People meet for drinks, catch up with friends, introduce themselves to newcomers and decide where the rest of the evening will take them. The atmosphere is relaxed, making the bars just as important as the clubs for many visitors.

Cita & Sandia (& Yumbo)

The Cita Shopping Centre remains the centre of Gran Canaria's swingers nightlife, with many of the island's best-known bars and clubs located there.

The nearby Sandía Centre offers a smaller selection of venues and attracts a slightly different crowd, particularly German visitors. The Sandia is only a 4 minute walk from the Cita - 2 ends of the same street.

And the Yumbo (the huge, fun, LGBTQ+ shopping centre with loads of bars and restaurants is just 10 minutes walk from Cita & Sandia - they form a triangle on a map)

Every Venue Has Its Own Personality

One of the pleasures of Gran Canaria is discovering the different character of each venue.

Some bars are quieter and conversation-focused, while others are livelier and attract larger international crowds. After a few evenings, most visitors naturally settle into the places that best match their style. Most bars and clubs are within 1 minute's walk of each other, so you can easily look at them all to find "your" bar or club.

Clubs Finish The Evening

The clubs are usually the final stop rather than the main destination.

Some visitors stay until the early hours, while others simply enjoy the atmosphere before heading home. Either way, the evening is usually shaped by the conversations and friendships built earlier in the bars. The bars tend to quieten around midnight, and some people head home at that point, while many head down to the clubs, which stay busy until 2 or 3 am.

One of the biggest surprises for first-time visitors is that most lifestyle travellers don't stay in dedicated lifestyle hotels.

Instead, they choose accommodation that suits their budget and preferred location, then enjoy the beaches, bars, clubs and swingers hotels as part of their day.

Many people assume the majority of lifestyle visitors stay in dedicated swingers hotels.

In reality, most choose standard hotels, apartment complexes and holiday rentals around Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas.

Accommodation ranges from budget apartments to four-star adults-only hotels, allowing visitors to stay close to the action without paying resort prices.

Hotels such as Gold by Marina have become particularly popular because they combine a good location with a relaxed adults-only atmosphere. We've heard that swingers can be up to 50% of the hotel's occupancy. But it's still a regular hotel, so best behaviour in public areas.

Dedicated Swinging Hotels

Dedicated lifestyle hotels such as Venus Star, SW Paradise and La Mirage offer a more social environment during the day, with guests spending time around the pool, bar and communal areas. They're an excellent option if you want to immerse yourself in the community from breakfast onwards, but they're no longer the only way to enjoy that experience.

Day Passes Offer The Best Of Both Worlds

One of the biggest changes we've noticed in recent years is the number of people staying in regular hotels while buying day passes to lifestyle hotels.

This allows you to enjoy the pool, bar and daytime social atmosphere before returning to your own accommodation in the evening, when most people head into Playa del Inglés for dinner, drinks and the nightlife.

For many visitors, it offers the best balance between flexibility, value and the full Gran Canaria experience. Venus & La Mirage are often fully booked throughout the high season, and also they are very quiet in the evenings, so a day pass can get you access to all the best parts of the experience.

Venus Star is typically 40-50 euros per couple for 12:00 to 8pm, including lockers and towels. There are various daily themes, including a cava party, pizza day and a pole dancing show on Sundays. The most popular day is Thursday, with its foam party. Arrive by about 11:30 each day during the busy parts of the season if you want a big sunbed.

Choose The Hotel That Suits Your Holiday

Because the swinging scene extends well beyond any single property, it's worth choosing accommodation based on the type of holiday you want.

Some visitors prioritise being within walking distance of the Cita Centre. Others prefer a quieter resort or a larger hotel with more facilities.

Like Gold by Marina, HL Suitehotel Playa del Inglés is a regular adults-only hotel rather than a swinging hotel, but it's particularly popular with swingers visiting Gran Canaria.

We've seen it mentioned regularly within the lifestyle community, and we know couples who've stayed here and found plenty of other lifestyle guests staying at the same time. It's a good alternative to Gold if you want the comfort and facilities of a conventional hotel while still choosing somewhere that's popular with other swingers.
