DESIRE MEXICO RESORTS

For many couples, a stay at Desire Resort is the ultimate swinging holiday. Unlike a club or a long weekend away, everything happens in one place - luxury accommodation, all-inclusive dining and drinks, themed parties, entertainment and the opportunity to meet like-minded couples from around the world.
If you're wondering whether Desire is worth the investment, which resort to choose, or how to get the most from your stay, this guide brings together everything we've learned to help you decide.

01. Which Desire Resort Is Right for You?
While both Desire resorts offer the same welcoming lifestyle atmosphere, they're not identical. One isn't necessarily better than the other - it really depends on the kind of holiday you're looking for.
Desire Riviera Maya
The original Desire resort and still the best choice for most first-time visitors. It offers a lively atmosphere, beautiful beachfront location and a great balance of daytime relaxation and evening entertainment. If you're unsure which resort to choose, we'd normally recommend starting here.

Desire Pearl
A little smaller, quieter and more intimate than Riviera Maya. Many returning guests appreciate its more relaxed pace, while others enjoy trying somewhere different after visiting Riviera Maya.

Our Advice
If it's your first Desire holiday, we'd usually recommend Riviera Maya. Once you've experienced the Desire lifestyle, Pearl becomes a great option for a return visit or for couples looking for a slightly more tranquil atmosphere.
02. Why Choose a Lifestyle Resort?
A swingers resort offers a completely different experience from visiting a club for the evening. Instead of dressing up for a single night out, you're spending several days with like-minded couples in a relaxed, all-inclusive environment where there's no pressure to rush anywhere or make the most of just a few hours.
Everything in One Place
Accommodation, restaurants, bars, pools, entertainment and evening parties are all included within the resort. Once you've arrived, there's very little reason to leave. You can spend your days relaxing by the pool, chatting to other couples over lunch, enjoying the beach or just unwinding before the evening's entertainment begins.
Friendships Develop Naturally
One of the biggest differences is time. Rather than meeting someone for an hour at a club, you might see the same couples at breakfast, by the pool, during the afternoon and again at the evening party. Conversations happen naturally, friendships build over several days and the whole experience feels much more relaxed.
A Holiday First
While Desire is a lifestyle resort, it's also a luxury Caribbean holiday. Some couples spend the entire week socialising, while others enjoy the atmosphere, great food and beautiful surroundings. There's no right or wrong way to experience it.
If you prefer the atmosphere of a luxury swingers cruise, see our guide to Lifestyle Cruises.

03. Desire Riviera Maya
If you're booking your first Desire holiday, Riviera Maya is the resort we'd normally recommend. It offers the liveliest atmosphere, attracts an international mix of guests and perfectly captures what makes a Desire holiday so memorable. While Pearl is an excellent alternative, Riviera Maya is where we'd tell most couples to begin their Desire journey.

Desire Riviera Maya at a Glance
Best for : First-time visitors
Stay : 5–7 nights
Atmosphere : Lively & social
Dress code : Different every evening
Who you'll meet : International couples
Would we return? Absolutely
Our Take
If you're looking for a luxury lifestyle holiday, Desire Riviera Maya is one of the easiest resorts in the world to recommend. It successfully combines the quality of an all-inclusive Caribbean resort with a relaxed, welcoming lifestyle atmosphere, creating a holiday that's unlike anything most couples have experienced before.
What makes Desire so special isn't just the beautiful setting or the themed parties - it's the amount of time you have to meet people. Unlike a club, where everything happens in a single evening, you're sharing breakfast, afternoons by the pool, evening entertainment and late-night conversations with the same couples throughout the week. Friendships develop naturally, and many guests leave having made connections that continue long after the holiday has ended.
It's certainly not a cheap holiday, but in our experience it's one that's worth saving for. For many couples it's a once-in-a-lifetime trip that quickly becomes something they can't wait to repeat.
Why We Love Desire Riviera Maya
Every couple experiences Desire differently, but there are a few things that keep drawing us back.
It Never Feels Forced
One of the things we appreciate most is the relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're naturally outgoing or prefer to take things slowly, there's no expectation to do anything you're not comfortable with. Some couples spend the whole week making new friends, while others enjoy the sunshine, great food and the unique atmosphere.
It's Easy to Meet People
Because everyone is staying in the same resort for several days, conversations happen naturally. You'll often see the same faces at breakfast, by the pool, during the afternoon and again in the evening. By the second or third day, the resort starts to feel surprisingly familiar.
It Feels Like a Proper Holiday
It's easy to forget that you're staying at a swingers resort. During the day, it feels like a luxury Caribbean holiday, complete with excellent food, beautiful pools, attentive staff and a stunning beachfront setting. The swinging element just becomes another part of the experience rather than defining every moment of the day.
People Come Back Again and Again
Perhaps the biggest compliment we can give Desire is the number of returning guests. It's common to meet couples who've visited multiple times, and many are already planning their next trip before they've even checked out. That says a lot about the experience the resort creates.
The Atmosphere
Desire Riviera Maya strikes a balance that's surprisingly difficult to find. It's lively without feeling overwhelming, sociable without being intimidating, and luxurious without becoming pretentious. Whether you're visiting as complete newcomers or seasoned lifestyle travellers, it's a resort where most couples quickly feel comfortable.
Daytime
During the day, the resort feels much like any high-end Caribbean all-inclusive. Couples relax by the pool, enjoy cocktails in the sunshine, take part in pool games or just spend time chatting with friends they've made during the week. Swimwear is optional around much of the resort, but the overall atmosphere remains relaxed rather than overtly sexual.
As the Sun Goes Down
As sunset approaches, the mood gradually changes. Guests return to their rooms to get ready for the evening, dressing for whatever theme has been planned that night. Bars become busier, dinner turns into a social occasion and the excitement steadily builds as everyone gathers for the evening's entertainment.
Late Into the Night
After the shows and themed parties, the atmosphere naturally shifts again. Some couples head back to their rooms, others continue talking over drinks, while many make their way to the nightclub and play areas. There's no pressure to follow any particular path, and that's one of the things Desire does so well. Every couple can enjoy the resort in their own way.
Theme Nights
Every evening at Desire has its own theme, and it's one of the things that makes a week at the resort so much fun. Guests make a real effort with their outfits, helping to create a different atmosphere each night and giving everyone something to look forward to after a relaxing day by the pool.
Join In as Much as You Like
Some couples arrive with a suitcase full of carefully planned outfits, while others add a few accessories and enjoy the atmosphere. There's no pressure to compete or spend a fortune - the important thing is joining in and having fun.
The White Party
For many guests, the White Party is one of the highlights of the week. Seeing hundreds of people dressed in white creates a fantastic atmosphere and is often the evening when first-time visitors really begin to feel part of the resort.
Don't Stress About Packing
If it's your first visit, don't worry about getting every outfit exactly right. Most people remember the fun and the people they met far more than what anyone was wearing. Our What to Wear to a Lifestyle Club guide includes practical advice on planning outfits without turning packing into a source of stress. A little effort goes a long way, and joining in is much more important than having the perfect costume. If you're deciding what to pack for the pool, see our guide to Swimwear & Resort Style.
Meeting People
For many first-time visitors, the biggest question isn't what the rooms are like or how good the restaurants are. It's much simpler:
"Will we actually meet anyone?"
In our experience, the answer is almost always yes.
It Happens Naturally
One of the biggest advantages of a resort holiday is that you're sharing the same space with the same people for several days. You'll recognise familiar faces at breakfast, chat by the pool during the afternoon, bump into them again at dinner and perhaps end up dancing together later that evening. There's no need to force conversations because the opportunities arise naturally throughout the day.
Everyone Was New Once
It's easy to assume everyone else already knows each other, but every returning guest was once arriving for the very first time. Most couples remember exactly how they felt on their first visit, which is one reason the atmosphere is generally so welcoming towards newcomers.
A Little Preparation Helps
If you're feeling nervous, a little preparation goes a long way. Our Before You Fly section below covers this in more detail
The Rooms
After all the anticipation before your trip, you might be surprised by how little time you actually spend in your room. Most days are spent by the pool, on the beach, enjoying the restaurants or socialising with other guests, with the room becoming somewhere to relax, shower and change before the evening begins.
Comfortable and Well Appointed
The rooms are modern, comfortable and equipped with everything you'd expect from a quality all-inclusive resort. After a busy day and an even busier evening, they're a welcome place to unwind before doing it all again the next day.
Is It Worth Upgrading?
Only you can decide whether an upgraded room is worth the extra cost, but we'd suggest thinking about how you plan to spend your holiday. If you'll be out enjoying the resort from breakfast until late at night, a standard room is likely to be more than sufficient. If you enjoy private outdoor space, special views or just want to treat yourselves, upgrading can make an already memorable holiday feel even more special.
Our Advice
Unless there's a particular room category you've always wanted to experience, we'd generally put the extra money towards another night at the resort rather than a more expensive room. For most couples, it's the people and the atmosphere that create the unforgettable memories - not the room itself.
Food & Drink
Good food and drink are a big part of the Desire experience. Because everything is included, there's never any need to think about bills, ordering drinks or deciding where to eat. Instead, meals become another opportunity to relax, socialise and enjoy the company of the people you've met during your stay.
More Than Just Meals
Breakfasts are relaxed, lunches often stretch into the afternoon and dinner becomes the start of the evening rather than just somewhere to eat. It's common to meet friends for dinner before heading together to the evening entertainment or themed party.
Drinks Are Included
Whether you're enjoying a cocktail by the pool, a glass of wine with dinner or a late-night drink after the entertainment, everything is included. It creates a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere where conversations flow naturally and nobody is worrying about the cost of another round.
Quality Matters
One of the things that sets Desire apart from many all-inclusive resorts is the overall quality. The food is consistently good, the service is friendly and attentive, and the restaurants feel like places you'd genuinely want to spend time in rather than just somewhere to grab a quick meal.
Our Advice
Don't make the mistake of rushing through dinner to get to the evening entertainment. Some of the best conversations of the holiday happen over a leisurely meal, and it's often the perfect opportunity to get to know other couples before the night's festivities begin.
Is Desire Right for You?
Desire isn't the right holiday for every couple, and that's perfectly okay. While many guests return year after year, the experience depends just as much on your expectations as it does on the resort itself.
Perfect If...
You'll probably love Desire if you're looking for a luxury Caribbean holiday with a relaxed lifestyle atmosphere, enjoy meeting new people and like the idea of combining great food, beautiful surroundings and lively evening entertainment. Whether you're curious newcomers or experienced in the swinging lifestyle, the resort is designed to let you enjoy the experience at your own pace.
It Might Not Be For You If...
If you're expecting a traditional five-star beach resort where the lifestyle element stays firmly in the background, Desire may not be the best fit. Equally, if you're uncomfortable around nudity or have no interest in socialising with other couples, there are plenty of luxury Caribbean resorts that would probably suit you better.
Go With an Open Mind
The couples who seem to have the best holidays aren't necessarily the most outgoing or experienced. They're the ones who arrive with realistic expectations, a willingness to meet new people and an open mind. You don't need to have everything planned before you arrive - in fact, some of the best memories are often the ones you never expected.
If this would be your first swinging holiday, our Talking to Your Partner About the Lifestyle guide can help you discuss expectations and boundaries before booking.
Is It Worth the Money?
A holiday at Desire is a significant investment, and it's natural to wonder whether it really justifies the price. After all, there are plenty of luxury Caribbean resorts available for less.
You're Paying for More Than a Resort
The rooms, restaurants, pools and beachfront setting are all excellent, but that's not really what you're paying for. What makes Desire different is the atmosphere and the people. It's one of the few places where you can spend an entire week surrounded by like-minded couples in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Memories That Last
Most holidays are remembered for the places you visited or the sights you saw. Desire is different. Long after you've forgotten what you had for dinner or which cocktail became your favourite, you'll probably remember the people you met and the friendships you made.
Would We Go Again?
Absolutely.
No holiday is perfect, and Desire won't suit every couple, but if you're looking for a luxury lifestyle resort, it's one of the easiest recommendations we can make. The fact that so many guests return year after year says more than any brochure ever could.
04. Desire Pearl
If Riviera Maya is the energetic heart of Desire, Pearl is its more relaxed and intimate sister resort. It offers the same luxury lifestyle experience in a smaller, calmer setting that's particularly popular with returning guests and couples looking for a slightly gentler pace.

Desire Pearl at a Glance
Best for : Returning visitors & couples seeking a more intimate atmosphere
Stay : 5–7 nights
Atmosphere : Relaxed & intimate
Dress code : Different every evening
Who you'll meet : International couples & many returning guests
Would we return? Absolutely
Our Take
If Desire Riviera Maya is the lively older sibling, Desire Pearl is the quieter, more intimate alternative. It offers the same all-inclusive swinging experience, but at a slightly gentler pace that many returning guests come to appreciate.
While Riviera Maya is usually the resort we'd recommend to first-time visitors, Pearl has its own loyal following. Some couples prefer its smaller size and more relaxed atmosphere, while others enjoy returning to experience a different side of Desire after falling in love with Riviera Maya.
The two resorts have far more in common than they have differences. Both offer excellent food and drink, beautiful Caribbean surroundings, welcoming guests and the unique opportunity to spend a week with like-minded couples. Choosing between them isn't really about deciding which is "better" - it's about deciding which atmosphere suits you best.
Why Choose Desire Pearl?
While Riviera Maya usually gets most of the attention, there are plenty of reasons why Pearl might be the better choice for your holiday. If you prefer a slightly slower pace and a more intimate atmosphere, Pearl could be exactly what you're looking for.
A More Relaxed Atmosphere
With fewer guests than Riviera Maya, Pearl naturally feels quieter and less hectic. It's easier to recognise familiar faces, conversations often continue throughout the week, and the resort has a calm, unhurried feel that many returning guests really appreciate.
Easy to Feel at Home
Because the resort is smaller, it's surprisingly easy to settle in. Within a day or two you'll probably recognise many of the other guests, making the whole experience feel friendly and familiar rather than overwhelming.
Perfect for Returning Guests
Many couples choose Pearl after already experiencing Riviera Maya. It's not because one resort is better than the other, but because Pearl offers a different style of holiday. If you've already enjoyed the livelier atmosphere of Riviera Maya, Pearl provides the opportunity to experience the Desire lifestyle from a slightly different perspective.
The Atmosphere
Desire Pearl offers the same welcoming lifestyle experience as Riviera Maya, but with a noticeably calmer atmosphere. It's still social, still lively in the evenings and still unmistakably Desire, but the pace feels a little slower and more relaxed throughout the day.
Relaxed Days
The pool remains the heart of the resort, where guests spend their days enjoying the sunshine, chatting over cocktails and getting to know other couples. With fewer people than Riviera Maya, it rarely feels crowded, making it easy to find a quiet corner or settle into conversations that continue throughout the week.
Evenings With Style
As the sun sets, guests head back to their rooms to prepare for dinner and the evening's entertainment. Theme nights are just as important here, and while the atmosphere builds as the evening progresses, it generally feels a little more intimate than Riviera Maya rather than less enjoyable.
A Smaller Community
One of Pearl's biggest strengths is its size. By the second or third day you'll probably recognise most of the other guests, creating a friendly, familiar atmosphere that's particularly appealing if you enjoy getting to know people over several days rather than constantly meeting new faces.
Life at Desire Pearl
A day at Pearl follows much the same rhythm as Riviera Maya, but with a slightly more relaxed pace. Mornings drift into afternoons by the pool, evenings begin with dinner and entertainment, and each day seems to flow naturally into the next.
Days by the Pool
The pool is where most guests spend their time, whether that's swimming, enjoying a cocktail in the sunshine or chatting with friends. Because the resort is smaller, you'll often find yourself recognising familiar faces from the previous day and picking up conversations where you left off.
Evenings Together
As guests prepare for the evening's theme, the atmosphere gradually changes from laid-back holiday mode to something a little more glamorous. Dinner is unhurried, drinks continue to flow and the entertainment provides a natural meeting point before the night develops in its own way.
A Holiday at Your Own Pace
One of Pearl's greatest strengths is that nothing feels rushed. Some couples spend the entire day socialising, while others happily disappear with a book, enjoy a quiet afternoon or simply relax together before joining everyone again in the evening. It's a resort that lets you find your own rhythm rather than expecting everyone to experience it in the same way.
Meeting People
If one of the reasons you're considering Desire is the opportunity to meet like-minded couples, Pearl offers a wonderfully relaxed environment to do exactly that. The smaller size of the resort means you'll naturally see the same people throughout your stay, making it easy for conversations to develop into genuine friendships.
Familiar Faces
By your second day you'll probably recognise many of the other guests. You'll wave to people you've met at breakfast, bump into them by the pool, share a drink before dinner and often end up spending the evening together. Those repeated encounters make introductions feel effortless.
Conversations Come Naturally
Because there are fewer guests than at Riviera Maya, there's less of a feeling that you need to meet everyone. Instead, many couples find themselves spending more time getting to know a smaller group of people, which can make the whole holiday feel more personal.
Before You Arrive
ust as with Riviera Maya, a little preparation before you travel makes a real difference. See our Before You Fly section below for how.
The Accommodation & Facilities
Like Riviera Maya, Desire Pearl offers everything you'd expect from a premium all-inclusive swingers resort. Comfortable rooms, excellent restaurants, attentive service and beautiful surroundings combine to create a holiday where everything feels effortless from the moment you arrive.
Beautifully Maintained
Although smaller than Riviera Maya, Pearl never feels like a compromise. The resort is beautifully maintained, the tropical gardens create a peaceful setting and it's easy to walk everywhere in just a few minutes. Whether you're heading to breakfast, the pool or the evening entertainment, everything is close at hand.
Rooms You'll Enjoy Returning To
The rooms are stylish, comfortable and well equipped, giving you a quiet space to relax between everything else the resort has to offer. As with Riviera Maya, we'd generally choose the room that best suits your budget and spend the extra money enjoying another day in paradise rather than paying for the most expensive suite.
Luxury Without Pretension
One of the things we like most about Pearl is that it feels luxurious without ever becoming formal or intimidating. The service is friendly rather than overly polished, guests are relaxed, and the whole resort has an easy-going atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the holiday.
Who Is Desire Pearl Perfect For?
Choosing between the two Desire resorts isn't about picking the "best" one - it's about choosing the experience that suits you as a couple.
We'd Recommend Pearl If...
Pearl is an excellent choice if you prefer a more intimate atmosphere, enjoy getting to know people over several days and like the idea of a relaxed Caribbean holiday where everything happens at an unhurried pace. It's also a great option for returning Desire guests who want to experience a different side of the brand.
You May Prefer Riviera Maya If...
If it's your first Desire holiday, or you enjoy a busier atmosphere with more people and a little more energy throughout the day and evening, Riviera Maya is probably the better place to start. It's the resort we'd usually recommend to couples experiencing Desire for the first time.
There's No Wrong Choice
The good news is that whichever resort you choose, you're still getting the same welcoming Desire philosophy, excellent all-inclusive service and unique lifestyle atmosphere. The differences are there, but they're much smaller than the similarities, which is why so many guests eventually end up visiting both.
Our Verdict
Desire Pearl may not be the resort we'd automatically recommend to every first-time visitor, but that shouldn't be mistaken for second place. It offers the same high standard of accommodation, all-inclusive dining, welcoming atmosphere and lifestyle experience that have made Desire famous around the world.
Where Pearl really stands out is in its relaxed, intimate feel. If you enjoy getting to know people over several days, appreciate a quieter pace and want a luxury Caribbean holiday where everything feels a little more personal, it could easily become your favourite of the two resorts.
If we were recommending a first Desire holiday, we'd usually suggest Riviera Maya. But if you've already experienced it, or just know that a smaller, more laid-back resort is more your style, we'd have no hesitation recommending Desire Pearl.

06. Desire Riviera Maya or Desire Pearl?
It's easily the question we're asked most often, and fortunately there's no wrong answer. Both resorts offer the same all-inclusive lifestyle concept, beautiful Caribbean setting and welcoming atmosphere. The real difference isn't the facilities - it's the style of holiday you're looking for.
If you're booking your first Desire holiday, we'd usually recommend Desire Riviera Maya. It has a little more energy, a larger social scene and gives first-time visitors a fantastic introduction to the Desire experience.
If you've already visited Riviera Maya, or you know that you prefer a smaller, more intimate resort where it's easy to get to know the same people throughout the week, Desire Pearl could be the better choice.
Whichever you choose, you'll still experience the relaxed atmosphere, friendly guests and unique lifestyle holiday that make Desire such a memorable destination.
07. Before You Fly
Booking the right resort is only part of the equation. One of the easiest ways to improve your Desire holiday is to spend a little time getting to know other couples before you arrive.
Make Contact Before You Travel
Many guests use swingers platforms such as SLS and SDC to share their travel dates and chat with couples staying during the same week. By the time they arrive, they've already recognised a few names and perhaps arranged to meet for a drink on the first afternoon.
It Makes a Big Difference
Walking into any resort for the first time can feel a little daunting, especially if you're wondering who to talk to. Arriving already knowing a handful of people breaks the ice immediately and often leads to friendships that continue throughout the holiday.
Don't Fill Your Diary
It's tempting to arrange something for every evening, but we'd resist the urge. One of the best things about Desire is the people you'll meet naturally once you're there. A few conversations before you travel are enough to help you settle in, while still leaving plenty of room for spontaneous moments.
Our Advice
If you're investing in a holiday like Desire, it's worth spending a little time beforehand making a few connections. It's one of the simplest ways to turn a great holiday into an unforgettable one.

08. Final Thoughts - Our Verdict
If you've ever wondered what it's like to spend a week at a luxury swingers resort, Desire is one of the best places in the world to experience it. Beautiful Caribbean surroundings, excellent food and drink, welcoming guests and a relaxed atmosphere combine to create a holiday that's unlike anything else.
It's certainly not an inexpensive trip, but for many couples it's one they remember for years afterwards. In fact, one of the things we hear most often is that people don't just visit Desire once - they start planning their return before they've even flown home.
If it's your first visit, we'd normally recommend Desire Riviera Maya as the best introduction to the Desire experience. If you've already been or prefer a slightly quieter atmosphere, Desire Pearl is an excellent alternative.
Whichever resort you choose, our biggest piece of advice is simple: spend a little time making connections before you arrive, but leave enough space for the friendships that develop naturally once you're there.
